A visit to furniture upcyclers, Out of the Dark

I spent a delightful morning at Out of the Dark’s workshop in High Wycombe. Out of the Dark is a social enterprise aiming to train disadvantaged youth in the area on basic furniture upcycling and upholstery techniques. Several of their trainees have ended up becoming permanent employees, and one of them showed me around.

The furniture is donated, and ends up in their warehouse, looking all forlorn and unwanted. However, this is only a temporary state, as they work to bring back to life these well made, but discarded and unwanted pieces of beautifully well-made mid-century furniture.

Here’s a piece in the workshop that is almost ready to meet its new owner.

And here are some items in their showroom, waiting to find willing homes.

Watch this space for some upcycled furniture in Toghal fabrics in the very near future.
