Introducing Duncan Clarke

We are excited to introduce our first guest blogger, Duncan Clarke, who is a specialist on West African textiles.
He runs the fabulous shop Adire African Textiles, based in Alfie’s Antique Market in London, where he nurtures a veritable treasure trove of exquisite vintage textile finds. He travels regularly to West Africa to investigate new buys. This is a man who truly knows his wild moth silk and his petit mouton wool. I dare any textile lover to step therein, and emerge without a purchase. I certainly couldn’t.

His doctoral research thesis was on aso-oke fabrics in West Africa, he has written a book on the Art of African Textiles, and consulted for the British Museum. He blogs regularly about textile related matters.

We will be posting two short articles he has written specially for Toghal, describing a sample textile to illustrate both the aso-oke and the adire designs we use in our first collection.
